Spring Scarfy

I finally finished my 2nd Queen Anne's Lace scarf for a workmate's combined Christmas and Birthday present.


I chose a bright-mustard for this one, a nice Cascase 220 1 skein project.


She loves it and I am inspired to try the pattern out in a few more yarn variations.


And since it is so lacy and light it is perfect for Spring, which is hopefully around the corner here in NY. The weekend forecast is for warm weather and also time to change the clocks, so fingers crossed!

PS: I know you are probably not supposed to block scarves in a curved manner, but my apartment really isn't big enough to stretch it all the way out lengthwise. No hallway!

The Pretenders

I was lucky enough to get free vip tickets to The Pretenders on Friday night here in NYC at the Roseland Ballroom. Wooohoooo Chrissy is so cool.

If anyone is thinking of buying one I would highly recommend it. They are made very well and look even better in person. They feel great too, nice and snuggly.

Also, you would probably be the coolest kid on the block if you were to rock it in your town, as they are limited editions and not very widely distributed.

Be a trend setter not a follower.

WIP scarfy

Another birthday scarf in the works. My flatmate requested a chain of flowers in "shades of purple" so I spent a good part of the weekend making 39 flowers (!) in grey, lavender and purple.

Here they are hanging out in bunches.


And in a pile - which is how they are usually.


I started piecing it all together last night, and realised I hadn't really thought about this process at all because it is very time consuming! After a lot of thinking, re-arranging and unpicking I got to about here...



I am hoping to do a couple of set each night so I don't go crazy. But I think it will turn out ok. Hopefully she wears it every day.

Cool Kids Wear Cool Lids

If you like to bike, but don't like rocking it helmet stylez, check out these cool "Helmet Hats" from YAKKAY.


The fabric covers, which come in four different styles, slip over your bike/skate helmet to make it look like you are wearing a (large) hat. They don't completely disguise the fact that you are wearing a helmet but they do make it look way better.


Living in a city of mad traffic and lots of death-defying bikers, I have def noticed how few people wear helmets here. It is only illegal for kids not to wear them, unlike in NZ where everyone has to.


I have seen 3 too many bike/car accidents to think that helmets aren't a good idea. So am happy to see some more stylish ones out and about.

On my walk home from the park on Sunday (where I went expecting some relaxing crafting in the sun, but got a heavy metal protest rally instead, good old new york), I stumbled upon this cute little store on Avenue A called Sustainable NYC. It is filled with cool cards, books, gifts, you name it. It even had a range (a range!) of books on crochet and amigurumi. Which reinforced my belief that crochet is so hot right now.

Anyway, even though I am trying to stick to a budget, I had to take home one of the PatternPad's from Seltzer. It is a book of patterned paper that you can tear out to make great cards, letter writing paper or origami. AND what is even better is that all Seltzer products are 100% post-consumer recycled. So really I was helping to save the world.
