Crochet Cushion

For my Mother's birthday in April I had a go at making a crocheted cushion cover based on this pattern that I found on ravelry for dishcloths.

I used chunky machine washable 100% wool in a dark red and grey marl. The yarn was nice and soft to work with, not splitty, and the finished cushion is nice and snuggly thanks to the thick fabric that the chunky wool creates.

You can see here that the way the pattern is worked, you end up joining the seam across the middle of one side of the cushion.

But because I wasn't posting the cushion inner to New Zealand, I left it open and send some spare red yarn to Mum so she could sew it up herself.

All in all I think it was a success and a really easy pattern. I would like to try it in a finer yarn next time and maybe in single crochet instead of double, to see if it works in a thinner material etc.

Happy Birthday Mum!

Arty Party

I need some art to adorn my walls. Currently they are bare (!) although I have a few frames leaning on top of the Fireplace. Here are some pieces I have been crushing, although do not forsee affording any time soon.

Sneak Peek...

Here is a sneak peek at the two newest additions to the embroidered hoop collection I am trying to get going. I whipped these up the other weekend while watching a True Blood marathon (best ever).

Both patterns from Sublime Stitching

I made...

... a new pillow out of some yellow felt squares I got at Purl Patchwork.

I think I am going to make another perhaps in grey and then add a grey blanket stitch around the edge of the yellow one, and a yellow edging to the grey.

What do you think? Better plain or shall I add the border?

Cushions: Part 1

Below is a cushion/throw pillow I made for my bed. I'm trying to (eventually) get to a grey/silver, white, yellow and neutral palate for the bed "area". This cushion was step one.

The inner is from Ikea (28" x 28" or 72cm x 72cm) and the cover was made from a natural linen with metallic silver splatters from Mood. I probably shouldn't have chosen linen for the bed since its gets pretty wrinkled. Lesson learned.

The pattern I basically guessed, its just a square with an overlapping square at the back, to slip the pillow into. I am going to add some domes or velcro to the split as I didn't have quite enough material to make a big overlap.

I have another cushion inner the same size, so am currently deciding whether I want a matching cover, or perhaps another pattern/colour.

Anyway let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions!

Printy

ONE more thing before happy hour.

I went to the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn in the weekend and picked up this little beauty from Cherrybox Studios.

Hooray for art!

Morrocan Wedding Blankets!

Yesss I found them. Maryam of the awesome blog My Marrakesh sells Moroccan Wedding Blankets.

Peruse the whole selection (and some other cool Moroccan-ware) here.

Choosing Chairs

Which of these chairs shall I get for my new outdoor area? Yellow would be the option in both cases.

Or these cute and way more affordable ones from CB2?

This table might be going outside too...

New House Inspiration...

... or house porn as some like to call it. I have been thinking a lot lately about what I want my new apartment to be like. Now that I live by myself (yay!) I can have whatEVER I like.

A daunting and exciting proposition.

So since the budget for this home-reno is $0 I have been doing more imagining, than shopping.

Here are some pics that I have found inspiring. Can you spot the theme?

Apologies but I have lost pretty much all of the credit links for these photos (collected over a long period of time... sorry!).

It's just a starting off point, really. Let me know what you think!

Back tomorrow with some actual craft! xxx
